Deployed husband has hard time communicating with me. I don’t want to be in silence while apart. What to do?
We’ve been married for 5 months. We’re both from the same rural area/high school. He’s been in the Army (right out of high school) almost 6 years. The problem is he only talks about the Army, back “home”, sexually/pornographic in nature or the have-to topics (bills, etc). We have discussed this problem many many times. He claims he doesn’t know HOW or WHAT to say. He says he doesn’t write - notes or emails. And talking over the phone is complicated because of his hearing difficulties as well as the time-delay and static. He has a time-limit on the malfunctioning computer with slow Internet, too. I understand the difficulties with the phone and the internet. However, we did video teleconferencing (VTC) on Valentine’s Day for 5 minutes in which he sat almost entirely in silence. He wants to talk to me but he says he “doesn’t know how”. He’s in Iraq and will be for the next 9 months. I’ve been patient and just want to communicate with my husband especially now that we are apart.

Do you remember when the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had teleconferences to raise money for the families of the 9/11 highjackers, but Iraq is the real enemy right?

I try to start with the common stuff I love her, how is she doing, but she always stops me and tells me that i am not personal enough i dont know she wont help me she always says the “If i need to tell you line”
